HIV Symptoms

A person infected with HIV may not show any symptoms, and still be capable of transmitting the virus to others. Consider testing for HIV if these factors apply to you, or your partner:

Engaging in unprotected sex with new partners. HIV can be transmitted through anal or vaginal sex without a condom, as well as oral sex without a latex barrier. Properly following all instructions on condoms, barriers, and anti-infection gels to insure you are best protected is one of the most effective ways to remain safe.
Engaging in unprotected anal sex. The anus is especially prone to micro-tears along its soft tissue, making it easier for HIV to enter one's system. Thicker condoms made to be tear-resistant should be used whenever one has anal sex with an untested partner.
Sharing hypodermic needles. HIV can be transmitted through blood, and dirty needles are a potential source of infection. Needles used in tattooing or body piercing are also capable of spreading HIV. Always insure you are being treated with a fresh needle, and that your doctor or body-artist disposes of them properly after use.
Having a history of infection with other sexually transmitted disease, including syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, or hepatitis.
Having one or more partner who shares these high-risk traits.
Detecting HIV

The best way to know that you or your partner does not have HIV, is to test for it. Our labs require a small sample of intravenous blood, which will be sent to a lab for analysis. It is recommended that this test be taken two to three months after suspected infection.

Those most at risk of becoming infected should have themselves tested at the next available opportunity. Contact us if you or your partner display the following symptoms:

Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, night sweats, or nausea
Frequent, bouts of sudden sickness
Rapid weight loss
Glandular swelling

Herpes Symptoms

The most prominent symptoms of Herpes are recurring cold sores and blisters. If you or your partner experience these frequently recurring skin problems, consider talking to our counselors about testing for HSV.

Herpes Test

HSV can be detected by our tests via two different testing methods; IGM and IGG. IGM is best at detecting the early stages of HSV infection, and is safe to be taken when there has been sexual contact within the last six weeks. IGG is a more thorough test that requires one to abstain from sex for six weeks prior to testing. It is highly encouraged for one to take both tests if they feel they are at risk.

Chlamydia Symptoms

The symptoms of Chlamydia include milky white discharge of the cervix in women, and a pale cloudy discharge from the tip of the penis in men. Pain during sex, itching or swollen genitals, lower back and abdominal pain, and intermittent bleeding between periods in women are less common symptoms.

Chlamydia Test

Chlamydia is best detected through a simple urine test. Due to the usually asymptomatic nature of the disease, annual screening tests are recommended for all sexually active adults. If you feel you or your partner are at risk of Chlamydia, please contact our doctors to set up an appointment immediately.

Gonorrhea Symptoms

Not everyone with Gonorrhea shows symptoms, and if symptoms do manifest they may take as many as 30 days to do so, but infection can spread just as easily regardless. Gonorrhea spreads through contact with bodily fluids, especially through sex, but including contact with blood. Gonorrhea can spread to infants during childbirth, and mothers at risk of gonorrhea should consult their doctors for immediate post-natal treatment.

Gonorrhea Test

Gonorrhea is most easily detected through a urine test. If you feel you are at risk of having Gonorrhea, contact our counselors immediately for to get tested. Catching the disease in its earliest stages is the largest factor in preventing damage and reducing risk. Testing is an easy procedure, and gonorrhea is treatable with antibiotics.

Syphilis Symptoms

Syphilis infection occurs in three distinct stages.

Primary Syphilitic infections generally manifest during 1-6 weeks after infection, and are most easily identified by one or more sores forming at the point of contact with the disease-bearing fluids. These most usually form on the genitals, anus, or inside of the mouth, but can form on any part of the body. In most cases of primary Syphilis, there will only be one sore, but multiple legions are not unheard of. These sores are usually hard, and will not hurt when touched. Treatment is generally easiest during this stage, and Syphilis may be completely cured with as little as a single dose of Penicillin G via intramuscular injection in its first few days after becoming apparent.

Secondary Syphilitic infections consist of highly infectious rashes, usually on the hands and feet of its victims. Rashes on the back, chest, and face have also been documented. Small wart-like protrusions may form along the anus, genitals, and other warm moist places of the body. During this stage of Syphilis, the disease is easiest to spread to others. Immediate treatment is desirable, as waiting for infection to spread further can result in significant damage to the heart, brain, bones, and other internal organs.

Tertiary Syphilis usually doesn't appear until after a 'latent' period after Secondary infections, during which Syphilis can still be treated with therapeutic medication. The latent period may last from one to ten years.

During tertiary infection itself, the body suffers intense permanent damage, usually in the form of massive, tumor-like growths appearing randomly throughout the body, displacing bone and organ alike to form. Treatment at this stage is highly dubious, as the damage inflicted by its formation will usually result in a menagerie of problems, from cardiovascular malfunction, to insanity.

Syphillis Test

Syphilis is easiest detected through testing of blood samples, though further testing may be required in some cases. If you or your partner feel you are at all at risk of Syphilis, or are showing signs of infection, seek help immediately. Syphilis is easiest to cure early, and acting fast to catch it is vital.

Urine Testing

Urine is especially important in determining the occurrence of STDs, as many infections effect the genitals and urinary tract of those afflicted, vastly changing the chemistry of urine. Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are most easily detected through urine sampling, and many other diseases may require urine sampling as a backup of other methods.

CBC Tests

A complete blood count lets your doctors know exactly how the ratios of different types of blood cells work throughout your body, and can be very revealing toward any problems. Examination of white blood cells also lets doctors know exactly what antibodies your body is forming, a sure sign of infection.

Intravenous blood is usually easily taken by hypodermic needle, and put through various tests meant to examine:
